A Mechanical Engineer by training with a Master of Business Administration and an Adjunct Professor in Sustainable Mobility, Industrial Engineering and Strategic Operations at the University of Augsburg in Germany, Thayalan joined MAN Malaysia in 2016 to head the Aftersales business after 10 years with a Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer.
In August 2021, he was promoted to General Manager and Head of Sales and Customer Solutions to drive the sales of both MAN Trucks and Buses in Malaysia.
His highly diversified experience in manufacturing systems, automotive operations and understanding of the workings of multinational corporations has helped him build extensive and long-lasting relationships with customers, suppliers, trade organisations and government agencies.
In 2021, Thayalan helped MAN launch the new generation, low-emission MAN TGS in a market that was dominated by Euro 3 and lower specification diesel engines. In the process, MAN became the first heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer in Malaysia to offer Euro V specification engines as standard across its entire truck portfolio.
Today, the MAN TGS is the best-selling Euro V specification truck in Malaysia with more than 400 units on the road.
